Breast Augmentation

BREAST AUGMENTATION IS A COSMETIC BREAST SURGERY PROCEDURE TO ENHANCE THE SHAPE OR SIZE OF THE BREASTS USING IMPLANTS.

Breast Augmentation is among the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures in Australia.

Breast implants are used in breast augmentation surgery to:

  • Enlarge smaller breasts
  • Restore youthfulness diminished by pregnancy, weight loss or age
  • Balance asymmetrical breasts
  • Reconstruct the breast after breast cancer or other breast disorders

At Coastal Plastic Surgery our Surgeons will customise the procedure to suit each individual and select the appropriate implant/s to accommodate your specific concerns to give you the safest and most natural result.

Types of Breast Implants used at Coastal Plastic Surgery

Our Surgeons use cohesive gel silicone implants which don’t inflate, have a very natural feel and are less prone to rippling

Anatomic or teardrop shaped Implants: Teardrop shaped implants are fuller in the lower half making them similar to the shape of your biological breast.

Round Implants: Unlike  teardrop implants, round implants are centrally full and usually provide more volume in the upper breast.

Both teardrop and round implants have a selection of projections.

Which type of implant is right for you will depend on what it is you are looking for. Our Surgeons will assess your condition, give you their recommendation and tailor the best implant procedure to suit you natural breast characteristics and desired outcome.

POSITIONING THE BREAST IMPLANT

Implants can be placed either in front or behind the chest (pectoralis) muscle. Placement is dependent upon the amount and thickness of the breast tissue to create a natural subtle look. The most common placement is behind the muscle as most women undergoing breast augmentation have either lost breast tissue thickness after pregnancy or are naturally thin. Placing the breast implant behind the muscle is also beneficial as there is better visibility of the breast tissue for breast cancer screening.

The length of downtime after surgery varies from patient to patient however depending on the type of work, one week is usual. It is also necessary to limit upper body exercise or lifting for at least a month.
